In a tragic occurrence, on Wednesday night, as the idol of Goddess Durga was being immersed, at least eight persons perished in a flash flood in the Mal River in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri. As there are still a number of persons missing, the death toll could increase. The occurrence happened in Mal Bazar.
An eight-year-old child and a thirteen-year-old girl were among the deceased.
